Who We Are
The Woman's Club of
Beckley is the oldest civic organization in the area. It was formed in 1909, was federated with the national General
Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) in 1914, and is a member of the West Virginia Federation GFWC Women's Club.
It has continued over the years to remain a strong catalyst for community improvement.
Our Purpose
The purpose of our club is to develop the Arts, to improve Home Life,
to promote Conservation and Education, to support Public and International Affairs within the club, and to foster Community
Improvement.
What We Do
Members work in the six GFWC department areas: Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Affairs,
and Public Affairs. Each of these areas is sub-divided to include a host of subjects that could be of interest for club
members. A few of the civic projects the Woman's Club of Beckley has been involved with include the Raleigh County Library,
Youth Museum, and YMCA..We also work on special state and national projects.
Meetings
Monthly
meetings are held in the Women's Club clubhouse on the third Tuesday of each month as arranged by the Program Committee
for afternoon (1:00 PM) or evening meetings (6:00 PM). Programs are related to projects of the club or topics
of current interest to women.
Membership
Current
membership is approximately 65 members. Membership is open to all women who reside in the area and who are invited
to join. Dues are $40 annually. We welcome new members (see contact information).
